PHP
PHP, a scripting language originally designed for producing dynamic web pages, has evolved to include a command line interface capability and can be used in standalone graphical applications. PHP is an open-source software that is commonly used within such platforms as WordPress, Joomla and many others.

WordPress & Joomla
Both are open-source software that have become popular due to their website and blogging usage. Both are written in the PHP programming language and use the MySQL database by default. These systems include features such as page caching which improve performance, RSS feeds, news flashes, blogs, polls, website searching, and language internationalization.

JavaScript
Java, as it’s commonly called, is a programming language which was originally developed by Sun Microsystems. It was released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems’ Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode that can run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture.

.ASP
Active Server Pages, or ASP as it is more commonly known, is a technology that enables you to make dynamic and interactive web pages. ASP uses server-side scripting to dynamically produce web pages that are not affected by the type of browser the web site visitor is using. The default scripting language used for writing ASP is VBScript, although you can use other scripting languages like JScript, Microsoft’s version of JavaScript, for it as well.

MySQL
MySQL is a relational database management system, commonly known as RDBMS, which currently has more than 6 million installations. The program runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases. The project’s source code is available under terms of the GNU General Public License, as well as under a variety of proprietary agreements.

Perl
Perl is a high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Perl was originally developed  in 1987 as a general purpose Unix scripting language to make report processing easier. Since then, it has undergone many changes and revisions and become widely popular among programmers. Perl borrows features from other programming languages and provides powerful text processing facilities without the arbitrary data length limits of many contemporary Unix tools, facilitating easy manipulation of text files.

It is also used for graphics programming, system administration, network programming, applications that require database access and CGI programming on the Web. Perl is nicknamed “the Swiss Army chainsaw of programming languages” due to its flexibility and adaptability.

CGI
CGI, or Common Gateway Interface,  a specification for transferring information between a World Wide Web server and a CGI program. A CGI program is any program designed to accept and return data that conforms to the CGI specification. The program could be written in any programming language, including C, Perl, Java, or Visual Basic.

 
CGI programs are the most common way for Web servers to interact dynamically with users. Many HTML pages that contain forms, for example, use a CGI program to process the form’s data once it’s submitted. Another increasingly common way to provide dynamic feedback for Web users is to include scripts or programs that run on the user’s machine rather than the Web server. These programs can be Java applets, Java scripts, or ActiveX controls. These technologies are known collectively as client-side solutions, while the use of CGI is a server-side solution because the processing occurs on the Web server.

Microsoft .NET
Microsoft .NET Framework is a software technology that is available with several Microsoft Windows operating systems which includes a large library of pre-coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine managing the execution of programs written specifically for the framework. The .NET Framework is a key Microsoft offering and is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform.

RoR
Ruby on Rails is an open source web application framework for the Ruby programming language. It is often referred to as “Rails” or “RoR”. It is intended to be used with an Agile development methodology, which is often utilized by web developers for its suitability for short, client-driven projects.
